Haor Initiatives for Sustainable Alternative Livelihoods (HISAL)


HISAL is a project of PKSF designed to step out from the conventional microfinance activities that lead to alleviation of poverty. HISAL was initiated with the view to trigger innovations in the microfinance sector to make the micro-credit program more dynamic, productive and diversified. With the support of HISAL, a number of organizations came forward with innovative ideas that were successfully implemented in the haor areas. 'Alternative Micro-credit Initiative for the Extreme Poor of the Haor Region' is the innovative initiative of Padakhep that was specifically designed to meet one of the key development challenges in the haor areas viz. poor coverage of the traditional micro-credit facilities in the haor areas with resultant disadvantages faced by the haor people. Padakhep has been implementing alternative micro credit approach in 5 (five) deep haor Upazilas such as Nikli, Mithamoin and Aushtogram of Kishoregonj district, Azmirigonj of Hobigonj district and Sulla of Shunamgonj district in association with PKSF. Padakhep provide credit support and technical assistance to the ultra poor people through 30 community-based organizations (CBOs).


Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Development Project (REREDP)


REREDP started with the view to improve the livelihood status of the poor people having no access to electricity by ensuring supply of renewable solar energy. Padakhep provide loan to the beneficiaries for installation of solar home system.



Enhancing Resources and Increasing Capacities of poor Households towards elimination of their poverty (ENRICH) Program


The ENRICH program of PKSF targets poor families, working with them to enhance and maximize the utilization of their resources and skills. ENRICH aims to alleviate poverty not only through income generation but through a holistic approach targeting other crucial aspects of human life including health, education, youth development, community development, etc. The goal of the program is sustainable development driven by the people themselves.



Remittance Program


Remittances have been continuously playing an increasingly large role in the economic growth and the livelihoods of people in Bangladesh. Remittances in Bangladesh arise as a poverty alleviating policy tool. It contributes directly in broadening the opportunities to increase incomes. It allows households to increase their consumption of local goods and services. At the community level, remittances generate multiplier effects in the local economy, creating jobs and spurring new economic and social infrastructure and services. At the national level, remittances provide foreign currency and contribute significantly to GDP. Bangladesh has retained its position among the top ten remittance recipient countries with $14 billion in remittances in 2013, said the World Bank's latest issue of the Migration and Development Brief.


Padakhep introduced remittance facility with the view to facilitating smooth flow of foreign remittance to the remote areas of Bangladesh. Under this facility, people living outside their localities send money safely to their relatives with a very small amount of service charge. Padakhep has been operating remittance program in collaboration with Xpress Money Exchange House. This partnership arrangement ensures secure remittance and faster money transfer, money withdrawal from any branches of Padakhep. Main aim of the program is to pay foreign remittance after prescribed verification according to the claim of a remittance recipient.
